While modern dentistry has multiple preventive and restorative techniques to preserve teeth, sometimes, tooth extraction may still be the course of action to salvage your oral health. For instance, if a traumatic injury has left your tooth severely damaged, tooth removal may be the only alternative. When Dr. William Proffitt recommends a dental extraction, it doesn’t have to inspire dread — of course, unless we are in the early 1900s where crude tools and methods were used to remove teeth. Today, tooth extraction is one of the most straightforward and painless procedures in dentistry.
We all like to maintain a full-toothed smile until we leave this earth. However, sometimes your beloved tooth has to go. You may not like it, but it’s the best way to preserve your oral health. Proffitt Dentistry may recommend tooth removal when you have:
Dr. Proffitt will recommend a simple extraction where your tooth has broken through the gum line. Here, we numb your mouth and then use forceps and other tools to pull out your tooth.
We will perform a surgical extraction when your tooth is impacted (has been trapped below the gum line). Under local anesthesia, we make an incision on the gum and bone to access the trapped tooth. We then break it into pieces for easier removal. Finally, we suture the surgical site to make way for healing.
Whether it’s a simple or surgical extraction, Dr. Proffitt and the team use gentle techniques to minimize discomfort. Please dial (865) 432-0804 to book an appointment with Proffitt Dentistry for gentle yet effective tooth extractions.
