Biomimetic dentistry is a dental restoration approach that is becoming a standard practice of Dr. William F. Proffitt and his team at Proffitt Dentistry. Focusing on ensuring the most conservative options are taken to restore teeth that are damaged or decayed is at the forefront of our practice, along with more biocompatible and metal-free solutions for new and returning patients in the area of Maryville, Tennessee.
Dr. William F. Proffitt describes biomimetic dentistry as the practice of designing procedures to conserve as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. This approach aims to mimic the natural function, strength, and appearance of healthy teeth rather than simply replacing them with artificial materials. Natural tooth restoration with a more conservative approach is the best way to address teeth in the smile that require additional attention and repair.
Biomimetic dentistry takes inspiration from nature’s design and uses advanced techniques and materials to restore damaged or decayed teeth. In traditional dentistry, large portions of a damaged tooth may be removed and replaced with crowns or bridges made from artificial materials. However, biomimetic dentistry focuses on repairing the tooth from within by using adhesive materials that bond to the natural tooth structure.
This approach not only preserves more of the natural tooth but also provides a more biocompatible perspective when it comes to dentistry.
