Full dentures are best used to replace all the teeth within the smile, but many patients are worried about obtaining them because they may have a fear of them looking fake or unnatural. Dr. William F. Proffitt of Maryville, Tennessee is committed to ensuring patients are happy with their dentures.
Dentures may refer to complete, or full, dentures that are used in replacing all the teeth in the dental arch. These are appliances that are made to look like natural teeth and gums and are worn to restore function and exquisite beauty to the smile. But many considering dentures may have questions about their appearance and can work with a dental clinic near them that offers aesthetic restorations.
Most dentures are made from acrylic, which is a synthetic material that has the appearance and weight of natural teeth. However, there is some controversy over whether such materials should be used since they do not have the same texture as real teeth. Most patients will find that the appearance, however, will look natural, as Dr. William F. Proffitt works with the patient to design an attractive new smile using full dentures.
There are also implant-supported dentures that can be fabricated using titanium implants to provide support for a portion of the denture. These types of dentures feel more realistic than traditional dentures, but they are significantly more expensive and require dental implants in order to secure them. Some people prefer implant-supported dentures because they look and feel more natural, although it is essential to note that these types of devices cannot be taken out without removing their entire supporting fixture from the mouth.
