If you find yourself hiding your smile in photos and social situations, it may be because it is imperfect and affects your confidence. This can often occur in patients with a naturally gummy smile, where excess gum tissue is visible and creates an imbalance in their appearance when they smile, laugh, and socialize.
Fortunately, there is a way to restore balance and harmony to the smile when a gummy smile is a concern, and Dr. William F. Proffitt, Jr. and his team at Proffitt Dentistry can assist. Maryville, Tennessee, area patients who want to restore their smile with a makeover to address a gummy appearance can connect with our smile restoration specialist to determine the solution that best fits their needs.
The best way to describe a gummy smile is the visibility of excess gum tissue above the teeth when smiling. This can create an unbalanced and disproportionate smile, often causing self-consciousness and insecurity in those with it. It is a common concern for many patients, but fortunately, effective solutions are available to restore confidence and improve the smile’s appearance.
There are several options available for patients looking to address a gummy smile. One option is crown lengthening, which involves reshaping the natural gum tissue and bone to expose more of the tooth’s surface, creating a more proportionate and balanced smile. Another option to consider is orthodontics, such as braces or Invisalign, which can help reposition the teeth and reduce the appearance of excess tissue. In some instances, especially when the gummy appearance is on the upper portion of the smile, Botox injections can reduce the lift of the upper lips and, therefore, disguise the excess tissue and provide a more attractive appearance. During your consultation with Dr. William F. Proffitt, Jr., you can ask about these options and determine which solution is best for you!
