Do you feel like everyone around you has a perfect smile? The truth is that many people have undergone orthodontic therapy to achieve their beautiful smiles. You are not alone if you have an underbite, crossbite, or other alignment issues.
Every year, millions of people undergo some form of orthodontic procedure, whether with traditional braces or clear aligner therapy. Both offer excellent results, but there are significant differences, as highlighted by Dr. William Proffitt and the team at Proffitt Dentistry in Maryville, Tennessee. Dr. Proffitt offers clear teeth aligners that you can wear at home.
Following are some of the reasons why so many are choosing this option over traditional braces, as shared by Dr. William Proffitt.
One of the biggest reasons people choose a clear aligner to correct alignment issues is their comfort. Crafted from dental plastic, the aligners slide over the teeth easily and provide a comfortable fit. There may be a period of slight discomfort whenever you move to the next aligner in your series. However, when compared to traditional braces, the difference is astounding.
Because traditional braces rely on a series of brackets and wires which are adhered to your teeth, they can often poke the inside of your lips and cheeks. When you first get braces put on, and later as they are adjusted, you may also experience discomfort. Only a professional can adjust these braces that are affixed to your teeth.
Another significant reason people choose clear aligners over traditional braces is the appearance or lack thereof. Clear aligners are designed to be practically invisible to others. Others will have no idea that you’re wearing them. However, there is no hiding the far less attractive brackets, wires, bands, and other components which come with traditional orthodontics.
These are just a couple of reasons that clear aligner therapy has surged in popularity over the last decade-plus and will continue to be incredibly popular among dental patients.
