Gentle Dental Extractions Provide Immediate Pain Relief and Support A Healthy Smile

AProffitt Dentistry, our goal is to promote optimal oral health so that you can lead a happier, healthier life. We achieve this milestone by placing preventive oral care at the core of everything we do. The goal is to see your teeth, gums, and other oral structures remain intact as long as you live.

However, sometimes we have to make hard decisions when a decayed or damaged tooth puts your oral health at risk. If your tooth can’t be restored by crowns or root canal therapy, Dr. William Proffitt may recommend removal to protect your oral health. However, you have nothing to worry about whenever you hear “tooth extraction” — the procedure is gentle and painless.

Why Tooth Removal Is Necessary

If you have a severely damaged or decayed tooth, removal is the best course of action since the infected tooth can spread the infection to the surrounding tissues. Besides, if you have a wisdom tooth, advanced periodontal disease, or unsuccessful root canal treatment, removal is necessary to save you from:

  • Pain
  • Infections
  • Overcrowding

Before any removal, our dentist thoroughly checks your teeth and gums to see whether restoration is possible. We only recommend removing your tooth to safeguard your overall dental health, where we can’t salvage your tooth.

Our Extraction Procedures

You may perceive tooth extraction as a painful procedure, but technological advancements have made extractions no more painful than a typical cavity filling procedure. We offer two types of tooth extractions:

  • Simple extractions: This is recommended when your tooth is visible in the mouth. It’s usually done after administering local anesthesia to reduce pain.
  • Surgical extractions: If you have an impacted wisdom tooth or a tooth broken below the gum line, Dr. Proffitt will recommend a surgical extraction. After administering anesthesia, we make an incision on the gum line to access the trapped tooth. The tooth may be split into several pieces for easier removal. After removal, we suture the surgical site to kick-start the healing process.
